kasi

ka-see

but

Generalconjunction

French: mais

Nalingi koya, kasi nazali na mosala.

I want to come, but I have work.

Je veux venir, mais j'ai du travail.

But — the small hinge that turns a sentence. Kasi is the everyday "but" (also ka). It introduces the catch, the exception, the gentle disagreement — "kasi…" opens the room for the other side of the thing.
