kobanga te

ko-BA-nga te

do not fear / do not be afraid (negative imperative)

Generalverb

French: n'aie pas peur (impératif négatif)

Kobanga te, nkoi akimi mosika na zamba.

Do not fear, the leopard ran far into the forest.

N'aie pas peur, le léopard a fui loin dans la forêt.

Kobanga te — do not fear. The negative imperative in Lingala is formed by sandwiching the verb between its infinitive ko- prefix and the negation particle te: ko[verb] te. Almost every prohibition in this dictionary follows the same rule. A parent speaking kobanga te to a child at night is offering both the verb and the calm to back it up.
